Proctoring. What is it? What kind of pitfalls does it have?

Proctoring is testing overseen by an authorized, neutral, proctor (human) or cyberproctor (AI), who ensures the identity of the test taker and the integrity of the test taking environment. Proctored tests are conducted by organizations and universities for the purpose of:

  1. University entrance tests;
  2. Check specific skills and knowledge;
  3. Practical tests after theoretical courses completion;
  4. Attestations and examinations.

Did you know? Proctor is not a modern word. First proctors were spotted in XXI century at Camridge universirty.

Proctoring modes

Аsynchronous and automation — this is a test with AI (cyberproctor), a proctor can be connected to a session at any time though. Then the session record is reviewed again.

Synchronous mode — monitoring by a proctor (human) in real-time.
